What is PKV?
PKV is private health insurance in Germany, available to employees earning over €69,300 (2026), self-employed, and civil servants. Premiums are risk-based (age, health at entry) and often cheaper than GKV for young healthy high earners — but rise sharply in retirement and are hard to switch back from.
