ITR Filing 2026 Checklist: Documents You Need
ITR filing opens April 1. The deadline for individuals is July 31, 2026 (non-audit cases). Collect these before you start.
Identity and bank - PAN card, Aadhaar card (Aadhaar-PAN must be linked) - Bank account number, IFSC — for any refund - All bank statements for the financial year
Salary income - Form 16 from employer - Salary slips (optional, for cross-check) - Form 26AS (download from income tax portal) - AIS (Annual Information Statement)
Investment income - Capital gains statement from broker (Zerodha, Groww, etc.) - Mutual fund statement (CAMS/KFintech) - Dividend income from companies and mutual funds - FD/RD interest certificates
Deductions (old regime only) - 80C proofs: LIC premiums, PPF passbook, ELSS, home loan principal, tuition fees - 80D: health insurance premium receipts - 80CCD(1B): NPS contribution statement - Rent receipts + PAN of landlord (if HRA claimed) - Home loan interest certificate (Form 16B)
Other - Foreign income and assets (if any) — schedule FA - Crypto (VDA) transaction statement - Gift details if above ₹50K from non-relatives
Verification After filing, e-verify within 30 days via Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or EVC — otherwise the return is treated as not filed.
