Best Credit Card for Airport Lounge Access in India 2026: Real Visit Math

Airport lounge access is the #1 perk Indian travelers chase. We compare 8 cards by actual lounge visits per year, network coverage (DragonPass, Priority Pass), guest charges, and fee-vs-value math.

Why lounge access matters in India

Indian airport lounges have become a status symbol — but the real value is practical. A free lounge visit saves you ₹500-1,500 (food, drinks, wifi, quiet seating) on every flight. For frequent travelers (12+ flights/year), the savings cover most premium card annual fees.

The 4 lounge networks in India

You'll see these names everywhere:

1. Priority Pass: International network, 1,300+ lounges globally. Most premium Indian cards include 4-12 visits/year. Each visit costs the bank ~$32 — they pass it on as fees. 2. DragonPass: Smaller alternative, common with HDFC Bank cards. Similar coverage in India + Asia. 3. MasterCard Travel Pass / LoungeKey: Visa & Mastercard's own networks. Often via specific elite cards. 4. VPS / Adani / GMR (Domestic only): Direct airport-operator programs at Indian airports. Many free cards offer these via "Visa/MasterCard Domestic Lounge Program."

Top picks ranked by domestic visits/year

### Tier 1: Unlimited domestic + international

#### HDFC Diners Club Privilege (₹2,500/yr fee) - Domestic lounges: Unlimited - International: Unlimited (Diners Club worldwide) - Spend requirement: ₹40,000/quarter to keep benefits - Verdict: Best ₹/visit ratio if you fly 10+ times/year

#### HDFC Infinia (₹12,500/yr fee) - Domestic lounges: Unlimited (any card holder + 1 guest) - International: Unlimited via Priority Pass + Diners Club - Spend waiver: ₹10 lakh/year fee waived - Verdict: For HNI travelers who actually fly business/first class

### Tier 2: 16-24 visits/year

#### Axis Magnus (₹12,500/yr fee, post-2024 changes) - Domestic: 8 free visits/quarter via Priority Pass + 4 via Visa/MC Domestic - International: 4 visits/year on Priority Pass - 2024 changes: Reward rate cut from 25/200 ₹ to current 12 EDGE Reward Points, but lounge perks intact - Verdict: Still solid for moderate travelers

#### ICICI Sapphiro (₹6,500/yr fee) - Domestic: 4 per quarter (16/year) via Visa Signature program - International: 8 visits/year via Priority Pass (cardholder only) - Verdict: Sweet spot for occasional international travelers

#### Yes Bank Marquee (₹9,999/yr fee) - Domestic: Unlimited via Mastercard Travel Pass - International: 8 visits/year for cardholder + spouse

### Tier 3: ₹0 fee with lounge perks

#### IDFC FIRST Select (₹0 lifetime free) - Domestic: 4 visits per quarter (16/year) via Mastercard Travel Pass - International: None - Verdict: Best value — actual unlimited 16 free visits without paying anything

#### Amex Platinum Travel (₹3,500/yr, often promotional offers) - Domestic: 4 free visits/year via Priority Pass + 8 EDGE - International: 4 free visits via Priority Pass - Welcome: ₹2,000 vouchers redeemable; spend milestones unlock more

#### SBI Elite (₹4,999/yr fee) - Domestic: 6 free visits/year + 4 international via Priority Pass - Cardholder only

The hidden fine print (read this!)

1. Last quarter spend requirement: Most cards need you to spend ₹X (typically ₹40K-1L) in the previous quarter for the lounge access to remain active. Skip a quarter, lose access.

2. Guest charges: "Free for cardholder" usually means just you. Each guest costs ₹500-1,200 on Visa/MC Domestic, or $32 on Priority Pass.

3. Domestic vs international counting: Some cards split visits. ICICI Sapphiro gives 16 domestic + 8 international = 24 total. Axis Magnus gives 8 international + 12 domestic-only.

4. Cardholder-only restriction on international: Almost no card lets you bring guests on international Priority Pass visits without paying.

5. Network changes: Banks have been cutting Priority Pass perks in 2023-25 due to rising costs. Always check the current rate card before paying the annual fee.

Math: when does a paid card pay off?

| Card | Annual fee | Visits/year | Cost per visit | |---|---|---|---| | HDFC Infinia | ₹12,500 | Unlimited (assume 30) | ₹417 | | HDFC Diners Privilege | ₹2,500 | Unlimited (assume 24) | ₹104 | | ICICI Sapphiro | ₹6,500 | 24 (16 dom + 8 intl) | ₹271 | | Axis Magnus | ₹12,500 | 16 (12 dom + 4 intl) | ₹781 | | IDFC FIRST Select | ₹0 | 16 (dom only) | ₹0 |

A ₹500 lounge visit becomes "worth" the fee if you make at least: - 5 visits/year for HDFC Diners Privilege - 25 visits/year for HDFC Infinia - 13 visits/year for ICICI Sapphiro - 25 visits/year for Axis Magnus

Recommendations by traveler type

  • 0-5 flights/year: IDFC FIRST Select. Free, gets you 4-5 visits.
  • 5-15 flights/year, mostly domestic: HDFC Diners Privilege. ₹2.5K well spent.
  • 15+ flights/year, mix domestic + international: ICICI Sapphiro or Yes Bank Marquee.
  • Frequent international flier (HNI): HDFC Infinia. The other perks (concierge, golf, hotel rewards) compound the value.
